History of Video Poker

The roots of the online Video Poker games lie in the popular game of Poker. The first machines were actually used in the late nineteenth century and these machines feature poker card that were placed on five reels and operated by a coin mechanism and by pulling a lever on the side of the machine.

These early Poker machines were actually a form of the original Slot machine and they were to be found in local bars and cigarette stores throughout the United States. With today's game of Video Poker we have a combination of a Slot machine and Five Card Draw Poker.

It was during the 1970's with the thanks to modern technology and the development of the computer chip that the Video Poker machine came into existence. These first machines looked quite similar in appearance like a television set.

In 1979 the first Draw Video Poker Machine was developed by SIRCOMA which is an acronym for Sir Redd's Coin Machines which later became known as IGT (International Game Technology). Over the following years these machines became quite popular as more people preferred to play these machines rather than to sit at a casino table with others. It was during these years that the competitiveness grew between the Slot Machines and Video Poker machines in the land based casinos.

Today there is the opportunity to play Video Poker at both land based casinos as well as online casinos with the widespread success of the internet. Jacks or Better is perhaps the most popular of the online Video Pokers where a pair of Jacks or Better will benefit the players with payoffs. With all the different games of Video Poker we find they each have their own rules and payout conditions but are still all based on the original game of poker.

With the Microgaming Online Casinos you will find that they have the biggest offering of online Video Poker Games on the internet. It is not unusual to find some of the online casinos like All Slots Casino, All Jackpots Casino, First Web Casino or the Wild Jack Casino to have over 40 different Video and Power Poker Games for you to choose from.
